Express Yourself In 2014

The New Year is rife with resolutions, many of which will likely be forgotten as quickly as they are made. But if your resolution is to make your mark in 2014, a submission to Taproot V, an anthology of poetry, prose and images from Quebec’s Eastern Townships, could just be your launching pad.

First published in 1999 for Townshippers’ Association’s 20th anniversary, Taproot has showcased original written or visual art revealing the distinctive creativity and culture of the Townships English-speaking community.

The Taproot title pays tribute to the deep roots of our community as well as its growth and development, and the variety of content found in each compilation provides a forum for local stories and a platform for deserving local talent.

Both emerging and established writers, poets, photographers, and visual artists have enjoyed the attention and exposure that coincides with being published in this peer-reviewed book. For budding authors and artists, the book credit can help propel their career path to a future publication.

Plans are in place to launch the fifth collection, in celebration of the Association’s 35th anniversary, at Townshippers’ Day on September 13, 2014, in Coaticook.

Submissions of original, unpublished works will be accepted from individuals of all ages, living, either full or part-time, in the historical Eastern Townships.

The range of works for consideration include: fast fiction, anecdotes, monologues (500 words or less), creative non-fiction (2500 words or less), short stories (5000 words or less), poetry (maximum 3 poems, totalling 150 lines or less), and photography, drawings, paintings, caricatures or cartoons.

The closing date for entries is Friday, January 31, 2014. An editorial panel will blind-judge entries and contact those chosen for publication in April 2014. Once published, Taproot V will be available for purchase through Townships Expressions, the association’s one-stop shop for locally created and/or produced books, music, art and other gift items.

Submission guidelines for Taproot V can be found online at www.Townshippers.qc.ca/portal/taproot-v/ or a copy can be obtained by contacting Cathy Turner, at 819-566-5717 (1-866-566-5717) or [email protected]
