Do-ET tour stops in Richmond

On December 6 the Unlock your Future: Discover Opportunities in the Eastern Townships (Do-ET) tour made it’s second stop, this time visiting Richmond Regional high school (RRHS). Secondary 4 and 5 students had the chance to explore their future with many diverse opportunities in the Townships. They participated in three types of activities through the half-day event: career panels, workshops, and a networking area.

Each stop on the tour is tailored to the school it is visiting. Based on the student’s interest for their future careers, career panels with regional professionals were held for the fields of Medical and Health, Agriculture, and Sports and Recreation. Students also had the chance to ask questions to people who are working in the field.

To improve students’ post-secondary skills, workshops were hosted by various organizations. Topics included career exploration, loans and bursaries, job search skills, interview preparation, youth entrepreneurship, and drivers for success. This activity even allowed for another project from Townshippers’ to get involved.

Katie Bibbs, from the Secrétariat à la jeunesse supported Youth Employment Pilot Project, helped Joanie Bergeron from the Richmond Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi (CJE) facilitate three workshops in English. Katie’s project is working to connect English-speaking youth to their local CJEs, so it was the perfect time to introduce the students of RRHS to Joanie!

The tour wrapped up with a Networking Zone for the students. Set up like your typical career fair, the Zone had booths for local employers, educational institutions, and community resources to connect with students. Employers invited to the event were from the region and have a specific need for English-speaking employees.

We would like to thank participants of the event for their time and commitment to making this day a success for the students of RRHS! The next and final tour stop will bring a full day of activities to Alexander Galt Regional High School on January 17.
