Outstanding Townshippers Awards

The Outstanding Townshippers award—sponsored by Townshippers’ Association— recognizes the dedication, generosity, and talent of people and groups who are contributing positively to the Eastern Townships English-speaking community! Thanks to community members, like you, who take the opportunity to submit a nomination, these unsung heroes can be celebrated for their efforts.

New for 2019: Nominations for this annual award are now being accepted all year long! The 20th Outstanding Townshippers award will be presented alongside the 15th Young Townships Leaders Awards at Townshippers’ annual general meeting on June 7, 2019. This year we will collect 2019 nominations until May 17 and nominations received after that date will be considered for the 2020 awards.

The nomination process consists of four steps. Before nominating someone for an Outstanding Townshippers Award, be ready to submit:

(1) Your name and contact information;
(2) An endorsement letter from someone supporting your nomination, along with the author’s name and contact information;
(3) The candidate’s name and contact information;
(4) An explanation of the candidate’s accomplishments/contributions.

Please note, incomplete applications will not be considered.

Outstanding Townshippers are nominated by the public. Candidates are those who have made considerable contributions to the life of the Eastern Townships English-speaking community, either within their local community or the Townships community as a whole. They are people who have given of themselves, beyond the usual expectations of their job or profession, through volunteerism, social activism, mentoring, or philanthropy.

Candidates can come from all walks of life (advocacy, art, business, education, community organizations, health and social services, etc.) Candidates may be an individual, a couple or a group, of any ages, as long as they have lived in the historical Eastern Townships. Nominations may also be made posthumously.

EXCLUSION: Townshippers’ Association’s employees and members of its Board of Directors are not eligible to nominate or be nominated for an Outstanding Townshippers award.

 Important: A maximum of two Outstanding Townshippers’ awards are presented annually;

Only completed applications that meet the required criteria will be considered.

There are two ways to nominate someone for an award – (1) online (preferred) using the form below
or
(2) you can complete this form and return it to Townshippers’ Association, along with a letter of recommendation, by the nomination deadline.

You will be asked for the following information:

  • Your name and contact information
  • The candidate’s name and contact information
  • An explanation of the candidate’s accomplishments/contributions

We will also need a letter of support, along with the author’s contact information. The letter fo support must be written by someone other than yourself and must speak to the nominee’s contributions. Some potential questions the letter could answer: 

  • How do you know the candidate?
  • What type of work has the candidate accomplished?
  • What is it about this person’s work that sets him/her apart from others doing similar work?
  • How has their contribution improved or impacted the community?

Once you submit a nomination, all names and other identifying information are removed from the application documents by Townshippers’ office manager to allow for blind evaluations on the nomination packages based solely on the information provided in the package. Packages are then delivered to the selection committee – comprised of two employees and three board members from Townshippers’ Association – who will review the submissions.

Exclusion: Townshippers’ President, Executive Director and Office Manager are not eligible to sit on the selection committee.

Nominations and selection information are kept confidential. Nominees will only be contacted if they are selected to receive an award.

The following documents are mandatory as part of a complete nomination package submission:

  • Completed nomination form
  • Letter(s) of support/recommendation (minimum of one)

Two letters are required that support this nomination – one from the nominator (step 4) and one from the person endorsing the nomination (letter of support). These letters provide the chance to showcase a candidate’s accomplishments so don’t hold back, share as much as you can and be sure to share their impact on others! These letters must prove why they deserve this award.

Not sure how to start. Try answering these questions:

  • How do you know the candidate?
  • What type of work have they accomplished?
  • What is it about this person’s work that sets them apart from others?
  • How has their contribution improved or impacted the community?

While only two letters are required, you are welcome to submit additional documents (such as scrapbooks, clippings about their projects from newspapers or newsletters, short videos or other pieces of creative work) that also shows why they are deserving.

Townshippers’ is excited to announce that starting on June 8, 2018, nominations will remain open year-round!

The deadline for the 2019 awards is Friday, May 17. Nominations received after May 17, will automatically be considered for next year’s awards. The awards are presented at Townshippers’ Annual General Meeting on June 7.

We hope by keeping this award open throughout the year will make it easier for the public to submit nominations the moment they are inspired by someone’s actions!
