Nominations open for Townshippers’ Association’s
2017 community leaders awards

SHERBROOKE, May 11, 2017 – The search is on for the people and groups that are making a difference in their Eastern Townships communities.

Nominations for the 2017 editions of Townshippers’ Association’s two community leadership awards – the Outstanding Townshippers (OT) and Young Townships Leaders Award (YTLA) – are now open. Townshippers’ is asking community members to put forward the names of people and groups, known for either their subtle or more noticeable acts of kindness, for some well-deserved recognition.

“We might not think of it often but every day people are pouring loads of passion, effort and time into their communities,” said Rachel Hunting, Executive Director, Townshippers’ Association. “What someone might think of a little action – delivering groceries to a neighbour, organizing a fundraiser, starting up an activity club, sitting on a health board – can be inspiring and invaluable to others in their community, which makes the Townships a better place for everyone. These are the people we want to know about and recognize. If you’ve got a name in your head, please nominate them.”

Outstanding Townshippers

The OT award recognizes individuals, couples, and groups, from all walks of life, who have made considerable or exceptional contributions — beyond the usual expectations of their job or profession, through volunteerism, social activism, mentoring, or philanthropy — to the life of the Townships English-speaking community. Two awards are presented annually.

Candidates for this award can be of any age, as long as they have demonstrated a commitment, in any field, to help make their community a better place to live, work and raise a family. A nomination may also be made posthumously.

Young Townships Leaders Award

The YTLA highlights youth achievements, dynamism and involvement by celebrating young people and encouraging these younger citizens to become actively involved in their communities. It recognizes youth who are active in their communities and who serve as role models to other youth as well as to adults. Winners will receive a beautifully framed certificate, as well as a cash award of at least $1,000, made possible this year with the support of our 2017 sponsors, the Lennoxville Youth Center, Global Excel, Nav Canada with the participation of the Government of Canada.

YTLA Candidates must be residents of the historical Eastern Townships between the ages of 15 and 35 who have carried out actions or initiatives demonstrating leadership within the Townships English-speaking community in the past two years.
