Health information day in Waterloo

The Community Health Education Program (CHEP) connects communities to health and social services information from professionals, in English, on a variety of health topics, and informs individuals about local resources.

Through CHEP, Townshippers’ Association is pleased to offer the second annual Health Information Day, in Waterloo on Wednesday, March 1 at the Royal Canadian Legion, 77 Lewis Street.

The day begins at 10 AM with a live presentation by Danielle Blain, from Parkinson Canada au Québec. Ms. Blan will provide information on Parkinson’s Disease, an overview of symptoms and figures and facts. She will also explain the motor and non-motor symptoms, how to live well with the disease, medication, and surgery, exercise and complementary care and support. A range of information pamphlets will be available.

The second session, starting at 12:15 PM, includes a DVD presentation of Stress Anxiety and Panic Attacks with popular presenter Dr. Camillo Zacchia. A Psychologist and Senior Advisor at the Douglas Institute, Dr. Zacchia specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, and interpersonal problems. His insightful presentation provides many examples to explain stress versus anxiety and why panic attacks are so scary. He will also describe techniques to manage them.  The stories he tells relate anxiety and panic attacks to physical experiences we have all had. Resources will be provided.

A complimentary light lunch will be offered between presentations. This session is part of CHEP, offered by the Community Health and Social Services Network, and is free of charge, but registration in advance would be appreciated.
