The Eastern Townships Resource Centre invites you to attend its annual ETRC Scholar-in-Residence Lecture March 13th, 2018, at 12:00 pm, in the Cleghorn Common Room (McGreer) on the Bishop’s University campus.
For the 5th time, the ETRC proudly receives a visiting scholar from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. As part of the ETRC Scholar in Residence Program, Dr. Jonathan Slater will give a public lecture and try to answer a few fundamental questions:
Does our ethical behavior depend upon our being fully aware of what’s right and wrong? Or is our moral sense innate, even hard-wired into us the way language is, leaving us quite capable of figuring out ethics without relying on any principles whatsoever? The Aristotelian tradition has placed the intellect clearly at the center of moral judgment, yet the relatively recent field of moral psychology contends our struggles with moral dilemmas are more often than not guided by deep-seated emotional responses. Therefore is it possible we can function as societies, nations, etc. without a set of moral ideals to guide us?
The ETRC invites everybody to attend this free public campus wide lecture.
