As a spouse, friend, or family member you may be a “caregiver” and not even realize it. A caregiver of a senior is someone who provides unpaid care and support to an adult friend, a spouse, or a family member who requires assistance as he or she lives with age-related restrictions, disability, or chronic illness. As a caregiver of a senior, the monthly Food for Thought lunches may be just what you need!
Food For Thought is a series of monthly learning luncheons that connects caregivers in the English-speaking community with relevant information and resources through expert-led presentations. Participants have the chance to ask experts questions and are able to connect and interact with other caregivers. A variety of useful topics have been covered, such as making medical decisions, compassion fatigue, legal paperwork and what to do when a loved one passes away.
Maybe you aren’t a caregiver now, but you may be someday. Sometimes it helps to know that you have a cheering section out there for you!
Food For Thought sessions are open to everyone in the Townships community. The presentations are free. The cost of the meal varies. Lunches are offered in:
MAGOG – often held on the first Friday of the month, 12 noon, at St. Paul’s United Church meeting hall, 211 des Pins. Meal: $7 payable at the door. No pre-registration needed. Save the date for the next sessions: October 6 (topic: Eye care), November 3 (topic: downsizing), December 1, January 5.
COATICOOK – the third Tuesday every month, at the Centre communautaire Élie-Carrier de Coaticook, 464 Rue Merrill. Meal: $11. Advanced registration required with Shirley Desruisseaux, 819-849-6170.
BURY – A variation of Food for Thought is offered in Bury under the name Health Link.
