Essay challenge invites high school seniors to focus on their success

Your story could inspire others to persevere in school!

SHERBROOKE, February 13, 2017 – High school seniors could be published and win up to $500 by sharing their past accomplishments and plans for future success in the Excel in the Estrie! essay challenge. Back for its fifth year, the essay challenge is launched by Townshippers’ Association’s Make Way for YOUth Estrie project during the annual Hooked on School Days week in Estrie, which runs from February 13 to 17.

To enter, the 2017 graduating high school class is invited to write an essay with a minimum of 500 words to a maximum of 600 words that focuses on the two parts of this challenge:

  • Identifying any academic, social or personal obstacles they faced on their way to graduation and what they did to overcome them.
  • Imagining what their future will look like, five years from now, living and working in the Townships.

Make Way for YOUth, along with this year’s essay challenge partners, the Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville Youth Center and Global Excel Management, will award prizes of up to $500 to winning essays at Townshippers’ Association’s annual general meeting this June (details to follow.) Winning submissions will also be featured in the autumn/winter edition of Townshippers journal.

The essay challenge is open to all graduating high school seniors in the historical Eastern Townships’ English-speaking community who are attending an English language secondary school and who have been accepted to a post-secondary institution in the Estrie region.

Essays must be submitted by 5:00 pm, April 14, 2017, using the online submission form found at Townshippers.org/Essay. Entry forms may also be downloaded from that page and submitted either electronically to [email protected], by fax at 819-566-0271 or by mail to: Townshippers’ Association (Excel in the Estrie!), 100-257 Queen, Sherbrooke, QC J1M 1K7.

Full rules and regulations posted at Townshippers.org/Essay. If you have additional questions, contact the Make Way for YOUth Migration Agent, at [email protected], or call 819-566-5717 (toll-free: 1-866-566-5717).

Make Way for YOUth Estrie is an initiative of the province-wide Place aux jeunes en region, which encourages the migration and settlement of youth in areas outside of Québec’s large city centres, and is offered to the English-speaking community by Townshippers’ Association. The activities of Make Way for YOUth are made possible thanks to the financial support of the Secrétariat à la Jeunesse and numerous businesses and organizations throughout the Estrie region.

Townshippers’ Association is a non-profit, non-partisan community organization that has been serving the English-speaking community of the historical Eastern Townships, since 1979.
