Exhibition River Crossings

October 4 – December 21

Vernissage: October 4, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

What is more bucolic than a covered bridge, which evokes the faded charm of times long past? And what is more pragmatic than the same covered bridge, spearhead of settlement and exploitation of the land? Drawing from the collections of the historian Matthew Farfan and the Stanstead Historical Society, the exhibition River Crossings proposes a meticulous and serial study of the bridge as a central motif in rural representations. Put together by curators Julie-Ann Latulippe and Samuel Gaudreau-Lalande, this exhibition is an esthetic and historical project exploring the role played by bridge photographs in constructing the Eastern Townships landscape.

River Crossings is organized within the 2019 edition of Objectif Photo Cantons-de-l’Est. It is made possible by the financial support of the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and the generous loan of works by collector Matthew Farfan.
