Between 1869 and the late 1930s, over 100,000 British children were sent to Canada. Believed by Canadians to be orphans, only two percent truly were.
Townshippers’ Association is pleased to present their story, told through Laura Teasdale’s newest play, Home Child on Sat. Jan 14 at 7:00 pm, at Bandeen Hall, Bishop’s University, 2600 rue College.
Descendants of the home children make up 11% of Canada’s population, yet their existence is one of our country’s best kept secrets. This is just one of their stories. The year is 1894. One London girl (Natalie Demmon) is sent away across the vast Atlantic into the great unknown of Quebec. One Eastern Townships boy (Nicolas Retson-Fournier) struggles to make room for her in his family and in his heart.
