Legal Information Clinic Back in Session

The start of the fall semester has once again brought a new legal student to Townshippers’ Association to help answer your questions about the law. Third year law student Dominik Danakas is not only bilingual but also very attached to the community and to Lennoxville, having attended  Sherbrooke Elementary School as a child and continuing her studies from a francophone high school at Champlain College Lennoxville.

Through the collaboration with the University of Sherbrooke and lawyer Carleton Monk, a Sherbrooke University graduate, member of the Quebec Bar Association since 1984 and teacher of law courses at Bishop’s University Williams School of Business, Dominik will be on hand once a week at Townshippers’ head office, in the Borough of Lennoxville, ready to answer legal questions by phone, email, or in person.

Since Dominik is not yet a lawyer she is thus unable to give legal advice, but she can give information regarding any questions you may have about the law. Common inquiries include driving under the influence, labour standards, family issues, landlord or housing conflicts, criteria for admissibility to legal aid, workplace accidents and small claims procedures.

Dominik can be reached every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from now until the end of November, by phone at 819-566-2182 (toll free: 1-877-566-2182) or by email at [email protected] Your questions and identity will remain strictly confidential.

Support Youth, Get a Calendar

Throughout the year non-profit organizations find themselves look for ways to raise funds to help sustain their various project.  Jenny Ménard, the Make Way for YOUth/ Desjardins Migration Agent has decided to create something that is beautiful, practical and affordable for all, calendars!

Keep up to date with one of two calendars featuring breathtaking scenic Townships landscapes or  local animals and wildlife, as seen through the discerning eye’s of local photographers, both professional and hobbyists, who generously donated their works to this project.

Thanks to the low $7 cost and stunning illustrations, these 16 month bilingual calendars (from September 2012 to December 2013) were a hot item when they were launched at this years Townshippers’ Day, but don’t worry, more were produced for you to display on your wall or give as a Christmas present!

If regular wall calendars aren’t your thing, Jenny has also decided to be nifty and create a perpetual calendar called the Forget-me-not! These calendars allow you to inscribe important dates helping you to avoid the embarrassment of forgetting someone’s birthday or anniversary.  At a cost of $10, these are especially great gifts for those who have a hard time remembering important dates!

No matter which calendar you choose, these are great gifts for a great cause made straight from the heart.  The nicest part of your calendar purchase is that 100% of proceeds from the sale will be used for sustaining activities under the Make Way for YOUth project, such as the Discovery Day Weekends which encourage young English speaking professionals to make the region their home. The proceeds will also allow Jenny to pursue some of her ideas for the age 18 and under crowd, such as starting up a Youth Center in Bury for teens ages 12 to 17 and a Job Shadowing Project which hopefully will take place this year at Alexander Galt Regional High School!

So don’t let another day slip away, pick up your calendars today at Townshippers’ Association’s Sherbrooke or Lac-Brome office, or to make other arrangements, contact Jenny  by emailing [email protected] or calling 819-566-5717 (1-866-566-5717).
