Need Help With Taxes?

If you do not know how to prepare your income tax and benefit return, Townshippers’ Association may be able to help.

Townshippers’ is one of several community organizations across the country participating in the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). Established by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Revenue Quebec, these volunteer tax preparation clinics assist eligible taxpayers who have low income, and simple, non-complex tax situations.

Eligible taxpayers normally include social assistance recipients, newcomers to Canada, seniors and   students that earn a maximum of up to $30,000 for a single person, up to $40,000 per couple and up to $35,000 for one adult with one child. For each additional dependant, $2,500 can be added to the family income.

The CRA has restored its online services following the malicious attack by the Hearbleed bug and has extended the filing deadline for individual taxpayers by four days but don’t wait to file. Even if you have no income to report, timely filing could mean you are eligible to receive certain tax credits and benefits.

Townshippers’ is grateful to the team of dedicated volunteers who have allowed us to offer this service to the English-speaking community since 2005. Due to the high volume of clients and in order to ensure the confidentiality of your information, please note that this service is offered by appointment only.

To schedule an appointment, contact Townshippers’ Information and Referral Service at 819-566-2182819-566-2182 or [email protected] Remember to bring your tax information slips and receipts.

If you are ineligible for this service but need help finding an income tax service near you, contact our Information & Referral Service or Revenue Canada at 1-800-267-69991-800-267-6999.

Keep Townships Arts Alive

The Townships is bursting with talent.  Artists, authors, musicians and videographers all help to enrich and educate our community with their work and encourage tourism. But they can’t do it without your help.

Townships Expressions encourages support for our artistic community by providing physical and online space to buy original artwork, prints, postcards, greeting cards, music, videos and more. Our collection to townships based or themed books suits every taste and reading level, from children’s and cookbooks, fiction and non-fiction, historical and humour, mystery and poetry.

Townships Expressions is proud to present our latest arrivals; the DVD film “Here’s to the Family Farm” by Keith Whittall and Victoria Moulton, and “A World Diverse” a personal account of David Edmond’s 34 plus-year career in the Royal Canadian Air Force as told through poetry and prose.

We are also proud to offer a limited number of autographed copies of the first ever English compilation of Daniel Shelton’s beloved comic strip “Ben; a 1st Treasury Book.” Enjoy 108 pages of Ben and Olivia’s adventures into the world of grandkid sitting.

You can visit the Expressions collection in person during posted business hours at Townshippers’ Sherbrooke office at 257 Queen St. (Borough of Lennoxville) and Lac-Brome office at 584 Knowlton Rd. in Knowlton. Our e-boutique at, click on SHOP, is open year-round 24 hours a day seven days a week.
