Picnic in the Park, for people 50+, is Back for 2012!

Back by popular demand, the Picnic in the Park 50+, featuring a day of fun, activities, information, and food, returns to Davignon Park in Cowansville on Wednesday, August 22. With the theme of “Aging Creatively”, a program has been designed for participants from all our cultural communities, to highlight creative ways to keep physically and psychologically fit.

In the morning, participants are welcome to visit with various community organizations at their onsite booths and they can fill out their ‘kiosk passport sheet’ to be eligible for a special prize drawing at the end of the day.  Art therapy workshops are also offered in the morning by Shannon Brown.

After nourishing the mind, participants can feast on a free lunch of sandwiches, salads, corn on the cob, ice cream, local melons and hot and cold beverages. Irish musicians will entertain during the midday meal and an hour of “GeriaCirque” with Eric Barcelo will be served up for dessert.

New this year is the Golden Cookie Contest 2012. To participate present yourself, your cookies and the recipe, to the Brome-Missisquoi care-givers support group kiosk, before 11:00 a.m. on the morning of the picnic. Following lunch, a panel of judges will taste and score the best cookie.  Cookies will be judged on the following five criteria: nutritious value, taste, appearance, ease of preparation, and cost to prepare.

Picnic in the Park 50+ has been organized by Townshippers’ Association, Townshippers’ Foundation, the Brome-Missisquoi Caregivers Support Group, the CDC Brome-Missisquoi, the Centre d’Action Bénévole of Cowansville, the CSSS La Pommeraie and the town of Cowansville, who are collaborating to inform the population about the different service providers situated in the Brome-Missisquoi MRC that can help seniors stay active and involved.

This event is made possible by the generosity of our financial partners, including our major sponsor for several years, Residence Principale.  Thanks also go to Desjardins Caisse Populaire de Brome-Missisquoi, Townshippers’ Association, Pharmacie Pierre Marziali, the town of Cowansville, Chagnon, and the Brome-Missisquoi Caregiver’s Support Group.

Picnic in the Park 50+ will be held on Wednesday, August 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cowansville’s Davignon Park.  Everyone is welcome to participate and don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs! In case of rain, the event will be postponed until Thursday, August 23.
